Venite 03:42
Venite (COME LET US SING TO THE LORD) I Lay on sheets like wax and melt You are so far you feel no heat When I see you I see myself A twisted orphan boy who has no hope outside your sovereign mercy I hear your voice far off and I Think someday I will see your face I have your word inside my heart Or so you say but in the darkness all I have is what you promise Venite Exaltemus Domino I walk alone inside my head I see the world that you have made You tell me one more time to trust And if I listen close I’ll hear the Rocks around me start their singing
2.
Dry Twig 02:09
Dry twig, stuck on the ground, I Ain’t no use to no one around No root, shoot or leaf I ain’t got any hope of these God’s hand reaching on out. What can He do, I don’t know how God’s hand, puttin’ me on the vine Savin’ what ought be out on the fire Chorus Grafted into the Living Vine Safe and living, loved and alive Harvest-full with joy and surprise Dry Twig, Dry twig God sends the sun and rain Prune and pick and graft again Seed, sprout, flowers flow By His word, the fruit will grow chorus Hey Dry twig, stuck on the ground, Think your no use to no one around Make room he’s commin’ on in, God’s gonna graft another in

Lady Wisdom 03:03
Ever she calls out lifting her voice thru the dark and the din Stands at the corner, waiting and crying for all to come in Fools pass by, without a care She sets the table leaving a seat for the simple to stay Sending the word out, “come in and feast on the truth, life and way” Chorus: She smiles when she speaks of her darling delight She shines and dances in all of His might The simple and searching find joy and honor are given away Fools turn and wander, mock and chase folly and end in the grave She can laugh, she sees their end Chorus: She smiles when she speaks of her darling delight She shines and dances in all of His might “Come to my table and eat of my feast Truth will delight you if you will but seek Leave all your folly and follow my way Turn from your darkness, come dance in the day”

Bullet 00:33
Well I'd take a bullet for you One brief blaze of glory, and then I'd be through And they would all sing about me when I'm gone Forever Remembered in song...

Teaspoons 03:26
Death by a thousand, death by the one Cling to it all, cause it’s gonna come Slip through the fingers it goes too fast Either way how long does it last? chorus So pour by the drip And drink by the sip It’s so tempting to leap, seems a brighter space beneath But the call is to bleed a teaspoon at a time Sun fades the colors, wind cuts the plain Lines in the dirt cause lines on a face No glory in living, no water to fall A teaspoon of poison a day makes you small, makes you so small If dying is gaining, then winners are last (Sign me up but let this cup pass) You call us to glory, you call us to die Without you this lame duck will never fly…

The world it keeps shining There’s gold to be found and there’s love to be lost It’s all here beside me Just reach out, take hold and forcefully find some rest It’s beautiful baby How you seem to fill all that I think I need Now scratch a bit lower, right there, yeah Just keep that up and I’m sure that’l help me to… <Chorus> Rest in the Lord Patiently wait, fret not before him Trust in the Lord He will make you shine like stars in the heavens when you take refuge in him But just a few moments, I wish I could tell you how big this could be We’ll send the kids packing, Take off on our own and finally I’ll get some… bridge Drowning again and I’m desperately fighting, But Christ keeps me under the sea Everything in me tells me I’m dying But taking a breath I believe I’m sorry I hurt you The fish that are sent swallow more than they see The doctor is working, though it bleeds death holds no fear, I’m finally able to… <Chorus>
7.
There’s a ramshackle hut here, it’s holding my heart It’s not much to look at, it’s damp and it’s dark The roof beams are falling, the draft keeps me ill But it’s yours, do what you will Well I know what you’d promised, you’d move in today Despite all the mess here compared where you came So I hesitate gently, and hope you’ll fulfill… It’s yours, do what you will But now dusk chokes, and everything’s scattered You’ve made quite a mess here, Good God what’s the matter? I see no connection to words that I’ve read Now “Sit Down” and “Hush up” are your words in my head Dear Jesus, I trust you, you do what you say You won’t leave me lonely, you won’t let me stay Here at your feet I will wait while you build ‘cause it’s yours, do what you will

She Sees 03:17
“Just one more cigarette, what will it hurt?” A light and a puff and a return to dirt Waving to all now she trills her goodbye Hoping they won’t see the fear in her eye And her Jesus, he hangs on the wall Open arms smiling, he waits for us all And she says, she looks for his face It’s the first thing, the last thing that she sees Fingers and eyebrows are all that remain Holding a hand through the laugher and pain Daily she waits for the cup and the bread Clinging to all of the things that he said Bridge Don’t move, and don’t move, and don’t move your eyes Blink she’ll be gone with a faint crooked smile Don’t go, and don’t go, I wish you could go Dance with your darling divine It’s the first thing, the last thing It’s the first thing, the last thing It’s the last thing, the first thing that she sees

Brother tell me, if you are nigh, in a night of trial, despairing of life; please remember always the name that will come one day in splendor arrayed. Tho the groom seems long delayed, promises made he will not cast away; keep a watch, don't lose the faith, one day he'll come, wipe all tears away. chorus 'cause a few more rolling suns at most and then we shall sing of his grace landed safe on heav'ns coast In Jesus Christ, our hiding place thorny troubles feel like your crown, your hands filled by the cares of this town; please remember, you've been remade; cast your crown, with faithful hands praise.

about

In 2008, I thought, Hey I should record some of these tunes of mine...

So Steve Hardin and Chad Lloyd graciously jumped in and we did some tracks at Green Lake Presbyterian in Seattle. Later on, Jesse Lind came over and added some piano. Then life happened: A move From Seattle to Saint Louis, 2 Masters Degrees, a move to the UK, and a new career/life on this side of the pond.

Then my kids found out, and they said "Dad.... " followed by all the lectures I'd given them throughout the years on creativity and following through.

So I finally took some time to dust this off, get a few additions, and asked Tabi and Rachel to sing a bit, and here we are. The songs themselves grew out of some tough times: those years when the children were young, we were exhausted, I worked too much, we watched relationships around us begin to show cracks (or shatter entirely), and in general stuff happened and you just had to keep going.

And God worked in and through it all.

Come, let us sing with Joy to the Lord.
